And the grocery store is....Harris Teeter!
Yay! Harris Teeter is moving into Constitution Square! I've been out of town so didn't see this new development until today but it's great news to come home to. We've been hearing a lot of rumors about this and apparently it has been in the works for a while with the city pushing really hard for the grocery store by providing tax incentives and helping with the cost of parking. The 50K SF grocery store is expected to open in winter 2010/2011.

Hallelujah! My Harris Teeter!
That's great! Are they going to offer free parking to those of us who live closer to Rhode Island Ave? I can't walk all the way from V street. I hope they do becuase I don't visit the Safeway or Giant tha are located in our hood. I do all of my grocery shopping in Columbia Heights becuase the Giant that is there is in an urban format. I refuse to settle for a surburban layout. If I wanted that I would have moved to PG or MoCo.
They will probably have some sort of free validated parking. Part of the reason they signed the lease was because DC is helping them build underground parking. Thus, they're aware how crucial parking is, especially if they are to appeal to customers who are not within walking distance.
I go to CH for my groceries as well because I can grab a coffee and some breakfast before heading to the Giant. I'll use the Harris Teeter if they offer validated parking and I'll grab a coffee and some breakfast from Pound. Without the free parking I'll just maintain my current routine of running to the CH Giant.
Don't forget, there is an "Urban Safeway" opening in the City Vista development at 5th St. NW and NY Ave, NW. It will be open this year along with a Results gym.
You know, that Safeway has been off my radar since we have other safeways nearby. Now that I think about it, we pass by that area on the way home after the gym so it's definitely convenient. It will probably nicer than the one on Rhode Island. Although I think the Safeway near H Street is pretty good too.
Thank you for bbeing you
